What's involved?
Diplomas are different to other qualifications. They 'blend' learning in the classroom, with experience in the workplace so that you get a top qualification that equips you with the skills and knowledge you need to get ahead in public services, or even in another profession if you decide it's not for you.

As an employer, you'll see real benefits in terms of reducing recruitment and staff training costs, as young people will enter the workforce with a higher essential skill level and having made better informed choices.
The 14 - 19 Diploma in Public Services will provide a route into higher education and/or work for those young people interested in a career in a public service.
The curriculum will reflect the reality of the employment market at the time and prepare young people with the skills and underlying knowledge to help them enter the competitive field of employment.
There are many areas of Public Service expertise and many routes into the sector.
The Public Service has the advantage of covering a huge variety of careers from Law to Facilities Management, from Veterinary Surgery to Policy Advice, from Health to Town Planning to Law Enforcement. To adequately reflect this breadth of opportunity, HEIs can prepare young people to embark on successful careers in the Public Service.

The Diploma is aimed at 14-19 year olds, and has been designed in collaboration with Public Service employers and Higher Education Institutions. This is to make sure that it is widely recognised by both employers and further and higher education institutions as a highly valuable combination of skills, knowledge and attitudes.

CHANGES TO THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
The last few weeks have seen a number of changes to the Diploma programme.
On 7th June the government announced the withdrawal of the final three Diplomas (the Diploma in Science, the Diploma in Languages and International Communications and the Diploma in Humanities and Social Sciences) scheduled for first teaching in September 2011.
This announcement does not affect Phase 1-3 Diplomas or current Diploma learners. The Diploma in Public Services, along with the other 13 Diplomas from Phases 1-3, has been developed and will continue to be taught in September 2010.
